Trans*, arte e identidade: reflexões acerca da criação artística independente

Abstract

The objective of this work is to carry out some reflections on the independent artistic creation of trans* people. To contextualize the use of this “identity” as an analytical framework, I carry out a brief bibliographical review on the creation of the transsexual category in medical discourse; I then counter this framework by pointing out some of the struggles mobilized by trans* people in Brazil. Furthermore, I report a performance by Guma Joana, (r)e_c0l3t4: C40S P4AR4D0XAL, illustrated by some ethnographic drawings. Finally, I read excerpts from interviews conducted by me and collected by other means, interweaving the personal and collective dimensions that artistic creation conveys. As a result, the creation Trans* art proved to be an interesting form of experimentation and construction of meanings between artists and their peers, a skill that interferes with the construction of common imaginaries, but also with the subject himself.
