Resumo
The quality of food has a direct impact on the onset of certain diseases, such as mental disorders. The
present study aims to deepen the understanding of the understanding of the students of the Federal
University of São Carlos (UFSCar), Sorocaba campus, about food, considering fundamental concepts
such as the major food groups (carbohydrates, proteins, lipids), as well as to carry out a survey of the
eating habits of these students and establish a relationship between their diet and depression, anxiety,
and stress disorders. The study also aims to evaluate a possible reduction in the symptoms of mental
disorders in foods rich in antioxidants belonging to the Brassicaceae family. To achieve these
objectives, a research was conducted involving data collection, using the following self-administered
instruments: 1. Questionnaires on lifestyle and relationship with food and mental disorders; 2. DASS-
21 scale; and 3. Food Frequency Questionnaire. The results showed that among UFSCar students,
there is a prevalence of the mentioned mental disorders (depression, anxiety, and stress) and a
dissatisfaction with the way in which food-related topics are addressed, when addressed among the
students analyzed. In addition, women presented higher levels of anxiety, depression, and stress compared to men, which may indicate that women pay more attention to their own health, moreover,
the consumption of foods belonging to the Brassicaceae family did not show significant results when
associated with influence on the levels of the disorders studie
