A função socioeducacional da Pia União das Filhas de Maria na primeira metade do século XX em São João da Boa Vista - SP

Abstract

Understanding that women's participation in the history of culture and in the history of education has been subject to a limited number of surveys, the present proposal aims to develop a study of the collection of documents belonging to Pia União das Filhas de Maria in São João da Boa Vista - SP present in the Sacred Art Museum of this city's Diocese in order to understand the role of women in that society and their educational and social function, as these women were catechists, music teachers and active in social-cultural projects related to catechesis and literacy . In this proposal we used, both record documents and minute and finance books, like women's choir sheet music and craft items produced by the association, as well as interviews granted by its former members. By the study of such documents on these women, it sought to unveil the possibility of their contribution to a characterization of a social and educational culture in the city of São João da Boa Vista in the first half of the twentieth century
