Abstract
The process of inclusive education in Colombia has followed the guidelines that international entities have established at different times, where it has been stated that it should be aimed at all participants allowing diversity and developing equity, for which teachers are essential, being directly responsible for contact with students, so their training is of great importance to achieve this goal. The National Ministry of Education (MEN) states that one of the ways to improve inclusion is through the Universal Design for Learning (UDL); therefore, teachers must know about it. Due to the above, the objective of this work was to analyze the perceptions of undergraduate students in natural sciences about inclusive education and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and to verify the opinion of undergraduate students in biological sciences about a guide based on UDL for the area. The research was carried out in three universities in Colombia; it was descriptive and had two phases; a first phase collected through a closed questionnaire of the perceptions of thirty participants on UDL and inclusive education, and the data analysis was quantitative -through graphs allowed to see the numerical relationship- and qualitative through the selection of categories that will enable to show the central theme of the answers. With the results of the first phase, an orientation guide on inclusive education and the UDL was elaborated on and analyzed by five participants who decided to continue in the second phase; this was given through a semi-structured interview in which their opinions on the guide were requested; from the process, a transcription and content analysis were made to find the thematic classes that grouped the information provided. As result of the first phase, it was found that the participants indicate a low knowledge of the processes, topics, and policies related to inclusive education, as well as concerning the UDL and the possibilities it has in the natural sciences, stating that they do not know how to apply it within the area; In the second phase, it was concluded that the field could be visualized from the development of competencies through the UDL and this can be an option for inclusive education processes. However, the participants indicate that they need improvements in teacher training programs and continuous support from the interdisciplinary teams of the institutions to have constant training and develop proposals to improve the environment in the educational institutions. Thus, it is concluded that the guide helped to improve the vision of the UDL and how to apply it in the natural sciences so that inclusive education processes can take place in future learning environments and teaching can be done thinking from diversity in a universal way with innovative practices
