Resumo

This research investigates the trajectory of the distributor O2 Play during its first ten years of operation, examining the possible paths of audiovisual distribution that have emerged as a result of technological, market, and public policy transformations in Brazil and worldwide over recent decades. The study analyzes the impact of public policies such as FUNCINE (Funds for the Financing of the National Film Industry), PAR (Additional Revenue Award), and the FSA (Audiovisual Sector Fund), and their relationship with the creation of a favorable environment for the emergence of new Brazilian independent distributors, including O2 Play. A qualitative methodology was applied to the analysis of official data on theatrical film releases and public investments received by the distributor, as provided by OCA (the Brazilian Observatory of Cinema and Audiovisual) of ANCINE (the National Cinema Agency), Audiovisual Sector Fund, and BRDE (Regional Development Bank of the Extreme South). The research mapped the various distribution strategies pursued by O2 Play, ranging from theatrical exhibition to free-to-air and pay television, and extending to digital platforms, across a wide range of negotiation formats. The study concludes with a case study of the documentary Chorão, Marginal Alado (Felipe Novaes, 2021), distributed by O2 Play.
