Resumo

This work aims to present a proposal for teaching Knot Theory through magic tricks and games with yarn, introducing mathematical concepts in a playful way in Basic Education. Initially, there will be a contextualization of the history and relevance of Knot Theory; subsequently, magic tricks and games involving yarn will be proposed, serving as tools for the understanding of the studied concepts and promoting benefits such as the development of motor coordination and logical reasoning. An analysis of national curriculum guidelines will be conducted, demonstrating the proposal’s contribution to educational objectives. Questions from mathematical competitions such as the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP) and the Kangaroo Mathematics Contest will be presented, highlighting the practical applicability of the knowledge. The work was implemented in a state school, both in regular classes, aiming to make learning more engaging, and in workshop format, allowing the practical exploration of knots to promote comprehensive, meaningful, and enjoyable education.
