Resumo
To develop educational material for adult patients with lower urinary tract disorders using clean intermittent urinary catheterization (CIL) and their caregivers. Material and Method: Methodological study, carried out in two stages, Stage 1) Survey of literature on types of urinary catheters and Stage 2) Production of educational material, based on knowledge available in the literature. Results: In the first stage, over time, instruments were already introduced through the urethra for therapeutic purposes. The discovery of other materials improved urinary catheters for use, such as in the manufacture of Foley indwelling catheters. In 1972, studies by Lapides showed that there was no difference in urinary complications when using a clean intermittent catheterization technique compared to a sterile one, which advocated the CIC technique. In the second stage, material was constructed using objective language, which included content related to the urinary system; types of urinary catheters; CIL care at home; lifestyle habits; elimination diary; between others. Conclusion: This material can contribute to clinical practice and provide the catheter user and their caregiver with educational improvements for experience with the procedure, rehabilitation care at home and continuous assessment by the nurse.
