Resumo
The objective of this article is to analyze healthcare incidents reported in newborns in Brazil from 2014 to 2022. Retrospective time series study, in the Notivisa database, from April 2014 to December 2022. The frequency and rate of reported incidents according to the number of live births per macro-region. The trend in the number of incidents was estimated using Prais-Winsten regression. A total of 39,373 incidents were reported, with the most frequent types being failures during healthcare, failures involving venous catheters, others, pressure injuries, and failures involving probes. The macro-region that reported the most was the Southeast, but, considering the number of live births, the central-west macro-region surpassed the others. About reports of AEs with serious damage, the most frequent were failures in healthcare, others, accidental endotracheal extubation, pressure injuries, and failures involving venous catheters. The most frequent AEs related to death were failures during healthcare, others, bronchoaspiration, and patient accidents. An increasing trend in the number of notifications over time was observed, which may be a result of the expansion of patient safety centers in the country. These results point out safety protocols that need to be strengthened.
