Abstract

Humanity was taken by surprise in early 2020 by the COVID-19 pandemic. the routine of the majority of the population was broken and everyone had to reorganize themselves for a new daily life. The disruption of routine and classes may cause damage to children in their literacy phase and especially to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), which we were able to observe during the research and will observe more results in the future. The present research aimed to identify possible impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on the literacy of children with ASD. The survey was quantitative in nature, in the form of online structured questions. Participants were seven mothers of boys with ASD. The results indicated that there were impacts in different areas of children's development, mainly in communication, lack of concentration and they showed greater irritability. It is concluded that the COVID-19 pandemic affected several areas of the daily life of children with ASD, hindering essential processes for their literacy and development.
