Resumo

This work aims to analyze the implications for public transportation users in the city of Sorocaba, São Paulo, specifically in the Parque das Laranjeiras neighborhood, following the implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system in the municipality. This research considered an analysis that contextualized the history of public transportation in Sorocaba and the changes brought about by the Sorocaba BRT, particularly the Itavuvu Corridor, which was completed in August 2020. The system, promoted in political campaigns as a solution for agility, comfort, and sustainability in urban mobility, reorganized several bus routes, including the division of line 42 Laranjeiras into two distinct routes (130 São Camilo and 131 Casa Branca), significantly altering the daily lives of Parque das Laranjeiras residents. To reach the desired considerations, the combination of documentary analysis, field research, application of a qualitative-quantitative questionnaire and the formulation of an analysis on the results obtained, taking into account Urban Geography and its precepts to understand the urban structure and its challenges in everyday life.
