Resumo

This research seeks to understand how Thomas Hobbes's theological conceptions impact his political philosophy, highlighting the negative character of his statements about God and religious phenomena. His claims regarding divine incomprehensibility are present in his investigation of biblical revelation and the formation of religious dogmas, both of which are permeated by the dynamics of power — a key element in his anthropology. The purpose of this study is to examine how this apophatic position regarding the theological field as a whole determines the nature of sovereign right, as well as the role it plays in the secularization of political philosophy.
