Implementação e expansão do uso do PIX no Brasil: uma análise entre 2020 e 2024

Abstract

The creation of PIX is understood as a milestone in the digital transformation of payment methods, since it provided an alternative for transfers and payments in real time, at any time, with low costs for users. Considering the relevance that PIX has gained in the country's economy, since its beginning of operation, in November 2020, the objective of this study was to analyze the evolution of the number of transactions via PIX, as well as the amounts moved, in an aggregated manner, for the national territory and also through municipal data, for the period between November 2020 and November 2024. In order to contemplate this objective, descriptive analysis of data at the level of Brazil and Brazilian municipalities on transactions carried out via PIX was used. As the main results obtained, it is indisputable that there has been significant and consistent growth in the use of PIX, however this has occurred with many disparities between municipalities, both in terms of use by individuals and legal entities, and PIX still has many possibilities for expansion in municipalities further away from large centers, since in these the adoption of this instant payment method was not as immediate as in large centers or municipalities close to them.
