Science is the best way that humanity has developed to build knowledge. It has its foundations among the great Greek philosophers and it is in constant process of development. The foundation stone of Science is the falsifiability in which the knowledge generated by science is constantly tested in light of new evidence, which can either corroborate or refute previous hypotheses. This brings solidity to scientific knowledge, yielding a relevant authority of Science for society. In turn, Pseudoscience is a set of irrefutable dogmas that dressed up with supposed scientific authority, claims it has the same relevance in the process of knowledge construction as Science. This research aimed to verify the science conception and pseudoscientific bias of students in the three Biological Sciences courses in the Sorocaba campus of Universidade Federal de São Carlos– UFSCar, as well as how these concepts are distributed along the students’ training years and how they are present in each of the courses. This study was accomplished through the online application of a quantitative and qualitative questionnaire joined by 90 students out of a total of 542 enrolled in the three Biological Sciences courses (Bachelor and Licentiate degrees). It was verified the effective deconstruction of pseudoscientific conceptions throughout the formative years but also the considerable amount of students who continue to accept pseudosciences based on belief systems. In addition, we found that schools represent the main mean by which people have their first contact with Science. Therefore, although education has moved towards greater scientific enlightenment, there is still a long path ahead.

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies that demonstrated the association between low concentrations of 25(OH)D and reduction in neuromuscular strength (dynapenia) as age advances are few and controversial. The vast majority of them are cross-sectional studies, which do not allow establishing a causal relationship, and which present important methodological divergences, such as different cutoffs to define low neuromuscular strength as well as different thresholds to define low serum concentrations of 25(OH)D. The only longitudinal study that we are aware of has not confirmed this association and, to date, we have not observed studies that analyzed whether the diagnosis of osteoporosis and vitamin D supplementation could modify these associations. OBJECTIVES: i) To analyze whether serum 25(OH)D deficiency and insufficiency are risk factors for the incidence of dynapenia in people aged 50 and over; ii) To analyze whether these associations are modified with the withdrawal of individuals diagnosed with osteoporosis or who were supplemented with vitamin D from our analyzes. METHOD: Longitudinal study involving 3,205 participants in the English Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA Study), non-dynapenic at baseline and followed for four years. Vitamin D, also assessed at baseline by the serum concentration of 25(OH)D, was classified as sufficient (> 50 nmol/L), insufficient (≥ 30 and ≤ 50 nmol/L) and deficient (< 30 nmol/L). The incidence of dynapenia was considered when the handgrip strength was < 26 kg for men and < 16 kg for women at the end of the four-year follow-up. Poisson regression models were adjusted for sociodemographic, behavioral, clinical and biochemical characteristics. RESULTS: Serum deficiency of 25(OH)D was a risk factor for the incidence of dynapenia (IRR = 1.70 95%CI 1.04 – 2.79), as well as age from 70 to 79 years (IRR = 3.89 95%CI 1,61 – 9.44), 80 years and over (IRR = 8.07 95%CI 3.05 – 21.36), presence of osteoporosis (IRR = 1.76 95%CI 1.02 – 3.03) and low levels serum IGF-1 (IRR = 1.76 95%CI 1.02 – 3.04). When only individuals without osteoporosis or who did not undergo vitamin D supplementation were analyzed, both the deficiency (IRR = 1.78 95%CI 1.01 – 3.13) and insufficiency of 25(OH)D (IRR = 1.77 95%CI 1.06 – 2.94) were risk factors for the incidence of dynapenia, as well as the age from 70 to 79 years (IRR = 5.15 95%CI 1.77 – 14.97), 80 years and more (IRR = 8.55 95%CI 2.66 – 27.51), low serum IGF-1 levels (IRR = 1.94 95%CI 1.05 – 3.61), low appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) (IRR = 2.12 95%CI 1.07 – 4.19) and hight waist circumference (IRR = 1.97 95%CI 1.08 – 3.59). CONCLUSION: Serum level of 25(OH)D < 30 nmol / L is a risk factor for the incidence of dynapenia. In those individuals without osteoporosis or who do not take vitamin D supplementation, the risk threshold is higher (≤ 50 nmol / L). In addition to osteoporosis and vitamin D supplementation modifying the effect of the associations found, older age groups, low serum IGF-1 concentrations, low ASMI and hight waist circumference are among the risk factors identified for the incidence of dynapenia in four years of follow-up.

In the present study, we propose an investigation about how the relationship between teachers and students is presented in memes shared on the social network Facebook. To this end, we collected a sample of seventy-two images, whose characteristics allowed them to be categorized as internet memes. Our objective was to identify and analyze how the pedagogical relationship and teaching itself were represented in these memes. To answer the research problem, we carried out bibliographical research, which aimed to conceptualize and analyze the object of study, and also empirical research with a qualitative approach, which was based on the analysis of the form and content of the raised images. Understanding the object of study as a phenomenon of digital media culture, we rely on theoretical foundations of Critical Theory, more specifically on those focused on the debate on the cultural industry, and we analyze the connections between cyberculture and the production of socially shared representations. As a complement, we also rely on some elements of Freudian Psychoanalysis to discuss issues related to exposure and manifestation in social networks. From the data analysis, we established four central axes of analysis for the representations present in the images. The first of them indicates that the relationship between teachers and students is represented in an ambivalent way, since students' feelings towards their teachers move between love and hate, admiration and hostility, reverence and sarcasm. The research results revealed that the ambivalence of the pedagogical link materializes in the ironic ambiguity of the content of the images. In the second axis of analysis, we defend that some memes present images of teachers sometimes associated with the ideas of suffering, misfortune and illness, sometimes with the image of the executioner, suggesting their enjoyment in the face of students' suffering. We join these two representations to discuss the updating of taboos in relation to the teaching profession, ideas that are frequent in the illustrations shared on the internet, including by the teachers themselves. In the third axis of analysis, we point out memes that present insults directed at teachers, suggesting that these images manifest cyberbullying actions against them on social networks, a phenomenon mitigated by the jocularity of the images, but which does not fail to indicate the symbolic violence that involves exposure and ridicule of teachers in the network. Finally, we analyze the role of humor in the construction of these representations, which suggests an equally ambiguous operation, which can both trivialize and desensitize the construction of stereotypes and violent manifestations, as well as subverting and reframing the teachers' view of the dilemmas that affect them daily.

A formação do tradutor e intérprete de Libras para a atuação na saúde pública: discutindo sobre ações durante a pandemia de COVID-19 a partir do programa Informa-SUS
(Universidade Federal de São Carlos, 2021-06-23) Caetano, David da Silva; Cabello, Janaina; https://lattes.cnpq.br/4349074907357325; https://lattes.cnpq.br/6482311073413539
The work of the translator and interpreter of Brazilian Sign Language (Libras) comes being discussed in the country, in its different and diverse spheres of action, mainly since the beginning of the 2000s (BRASIL, 2002; 2005), from the recognition of sign language in Brazil and, more recently, the professionalization of the work of the translator/interpreter from Libras (BRASIL, 2010). In this context, the objective of this work is to highlight the performance of the translator and interpreter of Libras in the sphere of public health, with emphasis on specific training needs for that field. starting from a qualitative research approach, the work presents a survey bibliographic and discusses aspects of the training of the Libras translator and interpreter for the mediation of medical care for deaf people. in a second moment, we highlight some of the performance needs of this that have been accentuated by the current COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, the work presents a brief discussion on aspects and specifics of the role of the Libras translator/interpreter to assist the deaf person in sphere of health to then problematize remote care necessary in the current pandemic context, from the actions developed by the Informa-SUS – UFSCar program, developed throughout 2020.

The work, of autobiographical character, seeks to explain some difficulties of a person with a disability in the university environment and how much this influences and modifies their academic and professional training, highlighting my experiences for training as a translator and interpreter of Libras, focusing on the difficulty of training and carrying out the profession on a daily basis. To support these issues, I will bring the studies as a theoretical framework. sociocultural aspects of disability. Then I will articulate the training of the interpreter of Libras from a brief bibliographic survey of the area. Finally, I do some considerations about the (im)possibilities and difficulties of training of a Libras interpreter with a disability within the university and within the Bachelor's Degree in Translation and Interpretation in Libras/Language Portuguese, using for this the methodological resource of scenes (LUZ, 2011), with the objective of problematizing my own training path in the area and to bring to the scene the problem of training Libras interpreters with deficiency.

The present work aims to analyze how the inclusion of deaf professionals in the business environment, and the insertion of these professionals is predominantly through of Law nº 8.213/91, known as the quota law. Bibliographic research carried out indicate that the linguistic difference that the deaf have compromises their accessibility in places where the predominant language is the oral language. Thus, throughout this research, some challenges that can be faced by the deaf in these spaces of work (from being hired, to activities performed in daily work), in addition to highlighting the importance of the sign language translator and interpreter in this context. For this, we interviewed, through questionnaires, a Human Resources professional of a company (responsible also for hiring deaf professionals) and a social worker who works in an institution that serves the deaf, making the capture of curricula, referrals of these professionals to the market and training of contractors. Our analyzes indicate that there is a "preference" on the part of the contracting parties in relation to the oralized deaf people, showing the little importance given to the Libras interpreter in the context and, consequently, to the needs and rights of the deaf. We question, with our results, the ways in which deaf people have been “included” in the labor market, discussing the need to consider the full fulfillment of rights so that a truly inclusive work environment for the deaf.

Agile Methodologies, especially SCRUM, emerged as an alternative to traditional methodologies, such as the Cascade Model. Agile approaches are configured as alternatives so that companies do not demand too much time with documentation, bureaucracy and excessive planning. In SCRUM, planning is carried out on a smaller time scale, providing the customer with time increments in certain periods that facilitate the necessary modifications during the project, and not identified at the end. With the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, caused by the new corona virus SARS-CoV-2, and the need for social distance, society as a whole has been adapting to reduce the contamination by the virus. Several companies are adopting the remote work regime, as a way to continue their activities and also to avoid the contamination of their employees. This research aimed to understand the impact of remote work on software development through SCRUM. Therefore, a qualitative research approach was used through a single case study. Interviews were conducted with the main members of the SCRUM team of a software development company in the interior of São Paulo. We tried to record the experience of professionals who use the framework in a home office regime. Topics directly related to SCRUM and work, mental and physical health, family relationships, infrastructure and comfort were addressed. This work brings evidence that the use of the SCRUM agile methodology is totally viable and recommended for companies that are working in remote systems

The research aimed to analyze the annals of the Research Meeting in Environmental Education (EPEA), in order to understand how researchers have been approaching the conception of Interdisciplinarity in the area of Environmental Education, in the light of the Freirean Critical-Transforming Environmental Education. A qualitative survey was carried out via document analysis of articles published in EPEA, in the period of 2001 to 2019. For this purpose, 898 works were selected on the event's website. At first, articles that presented the keyword "interdisciplinarity" were selected, followed by the selection of those works that aimed at school context, and finally, we selected those which the conception of interdisciplinarity are centered on the interdisciplinary subject or object. It was concluded that among the 72 works that mention interdisciplinarity, only 2 (2.78%) refer to the interdisciplinary subject and 7 (9.72%) to the interdisciplinary object, but none of them are in line with the concept of interdisciplinarity advocated in the Freirean Critical-Transforming Environmental Education.

The COVID-19 pandemic caused by the virus SARS-CoV-2 has done a lot of damage to global health. Due to the fact that it is a new virus to humans, with no treatments or specific vaccines, classic measures, like social isolation, were taken to stop its spreading. Education, as other areas, were widely affected- the university and school closures and the inversion of the knowledge flow pointed to the importance of technological and scientific literacy, that is one of the objectives of the teaching focused on science, technology, society and environment (STSE). In this scenario, we set out to comprehend the perception of graduate students of Biology Sciences at UFSCar about the role of science and technology on the context of the pandemic. We tried to map the level in which the pandemic affected the students; the dimensions of the knowledge about viruses perceived and lived by them during the pandemic; how they evaluate the importance of working on the relation between science, technology, society and environment in the classroom and if they feel that they are prepared for that. For this, we developed a quiz with socio-scientific issues (SSI) concerning coronavirus controversies and having the VOSTS (Views On Science-Technology-Society) quiz as a base. The results showed us that although the undergraduates have recognized all dimensions of knowledge that we set out to investigate (C, T, S and A) and give plausible answers, they have greater proximity and concern with issues related to scientific and cultural aspects, while distant from technological and environmental aspects. Thereby, we promoted reflection on the background of the science teachers, the importance of sciences, scientific and technological literacy in the context of the pandemic.

In late 2019, an outbreak of a new disease called COVID-19 occurred in China. In a few weeks, the virus had spread to several continents and set off a pandemic. Faced with this new obstacle, with a growing number of deaths, critical sociocultural education presents itself as an instrument not only to fight against this pandemic, but other epidemics prevalent in Brazil. For that, in this work a qualitative analysis was carried out with documental research of two books for teaching biology in high school, Amabis and Martho and Vivian L. Mendonça.Several researchers agree that the predominant health education follows a sanitary, content, biomedical, technicist trend, often out of context with reality and neglecting the socioeconomic implications on the subject. In this way, some authors propose a health education that prioritizes problems arising from the daily lives of students and that establishes a direct connexon between socioeconomic problems and recurrent sanitary problems, in addition to encouraging the perception of students as social subjects, that is, capable of making changes in society and charge governments whenever necessary. Therefore, it was concluded that both books have relevant biomolecular descriptions of viruses and bacteria, however, there is a lack of sociocultural problematization and its impact on sanitary challenges, there is also the absence of some information on public policies such as free medicines by the SUS, several vaccines and distribution of condoms. Finally, it is up to the teacher to emphasize and work with students on the most common epidemiological problems in their social circles, since these books are distributed nationwide, but some epidemics are endemic to a particular location.

The curriculum Learning to Read and Write in Small Steps (In Portuguese, Aprendendo a Ler e a Escrever em Pequenos Passos - ALEPP) aims to teach the reading and writing of Portuguese language words. ALEPP is organized in modules for online, individualized application, through a software platform (Computer Individualized Teaching Manager – In Portuguese, Gerenciador de Ensino Individualizado por Computador - GEIC). This study aimed to evaluate Module 2 of ALEPP, which aims to teach words with complex syllables involving digraphs and consonant clusters. The module programming includes 20 teaching units consisting of four steps per unit and four words per step, totaling 80 programmed steps (320 words). The programming includes teaching and assessment steps. The evaluations include: Module pre- and post-test and learning probes for all units (multiple baseline design across teaching units). Furthermore, each teaching step includes a pre- and a post-test and the schedule includes criteria that ensure that the student only progresses from one step to another if they reach excellence (100% correct answers for the words taught in the step); on the other hand, a step can also be omitted if the student obtains 100% correct answers in the pre-test. The main teaching tasks in all steps are 1) matching-to-sample between dictated and printed words (word recognition) and 2) dictation with constructed response. The present evaluation focused on programming efficiency, measured by the levels of learning achieved and the pace of the students' journey through the teaching steps. Data for analysis, related to the application by teachers or interns, were extracted from GEIC, in the period from 2017 to 2020. Sixty-two elementary school students, aged between seven and 14 years, who completed Module 2 were identified. Comparing the average data from the initial and final evaluation, the average percentage of correct answers increased from 63 to 91% in the dictation tasks and from 82 to 91% in the word recognition tasks. In the dictation task performed in the pre- and post-tests of the teaching steps, the average percentage increased from 86 to 96% of correct answers, whereas for word recognition there was a ceiling effect (high percentages from the beginning). Not all students completed all the teaching steps, as they met the criteria in the pre-test. Four students performed from 11 to 20% of the programmed steps, 11 students from 21 to 30%, 18 students from 31 to 50%, 13 students from 51 to 60%, 13 students from 61 to 70%, and three students performed from 71 to 80% of steps. The average number of steps performed was 35.3 (range from 9 to 64) and the average number of months to complete the module was 11 months (range from 5 to 16). The program proved to be efficient for teaching irregular words in the Portuguese language, as shown by the high percentages of correct answers in the final evaluation and post-test of the Module. It also proved to be viable for application in the school environment. However, it was observed that the variability in the input repertoire meant that many students did not need to perform all the programmed steps and, even so, the application time was long, which was arduous for students. Future studies may investigate the effects of Module 2 on students with a lower input repertoire. It is also suggested to evaluate a reduced version of the Module.

Brazil is one of the main beef producers and exporters, with herds predominantly composed of Nellore Zebu animals (Bos indicus). In this scenario, genomics can contribute to the identification of potential biomarkers of agricultural interest features. In previous studies, COL1A1, CTGF, CYP2B6, EGR1 and PRUNE2 were differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between groups of animals contrasting for the residual feed intake phenotype in liver tissue. The objective of this work was to select single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that potentially affect regulatory regions in the genes mentioned and associate them with different phenotypic measures of feed efficiency (FE). For this, using imputed genotypes of 398 Nellore steers, SNPs were selected in a window from 2 Kb upstream to the transcription start site to the end of the 3' UTR reduced of the DEGs. In the functional annotation, performed with the VEP software, variants in intronic regions, synonyms and those that are not possible regulatory splicing were not considered. For the selected SNPs, the linkage disequilibrium was analyzed by PLINK and Haploview software, and the in silico prediction of transcription factor binding sites (TFBSs) and microRNAs (miRNAs) binding sites was made using the LASAGNA and RNAhybrid software, respectively. A linear regression model was applied to associate SNPs with the phenotypic measures of FE, and significant SNPs were compared to regions of quantitative trait loci (QTLs) of phenotypes of livestock interest from studies in the same experimental population and from the Cattle QTL database. After functional annotation, two SNPs were selected in the upstream region of the CTGF gene; three referring to COL1A1, one in a splicing region and two in the upstream; 15 for the CYP2B6 gene, among them, one missense variant, four in 5 'UTR and three in 3' UTR, upstream and downstream; five for the EGR1 gene, one of these in the 3’ UTR region and four in the upstream region; and 33 SNPs referring to the PRUNE2 gene, three in the upstream region and six in the downstream region, and 24 missense variants. Among these, the SNPs for the five DEGs have the potential to influence TFBSs and have also been integrated into QTL regions of bovine phenotypes. SNPs of the CYP2B6 and EGR1 genes have the potential to influence the binding of several bovine miRNAs. Finally, two SNPs located in the CTGF gene were associated with the phenotypic measure of gross feed efficiency, one SNP in the COL1A1 gene was associated with the measures of average daily gain and feed conversion, and 19 SNPs in the PRUNE2 were associated with residual feed intake, respectively. The SNPs identified increase the knowledge about the possible role regulation of genes involved with phenotypic features of FE.

This study investigated the relationship between teacher and child in Early Childhood Education, seeking to understand which type of relationship best favors the child's integral development and the importance of respect permeating these relationships. The research, using a qualitative bibliographical approach with analysis of field situations, begins with a chapter dedicated to the Memorial. In Chapter II the Methodology is described and in Chapter III the theoretical framework of the work is presented, which consists of understanding the current conception of childhood, which Early Childhood Education concept is currently defended and how the relations of respect between teacher and child occur in Early Childhood Education. The last Chapter contains the analysis of three situations that occurred during internships in Early Childhood Education. As a result, taken up in the Final Considerations, it was found that in Early Childhood Education, it is necessary that children receive attention fully, focusing not only on caring for basic physical needs or cognitive development, but also encouraging social relationships and their emotional development, working together with families to offer them the best experiences. That it is essential to recognize children as subjects of rights, protagonists and capable of making choices. That it is essential to appreciate the Early Childhood Education teacher, to value his/her quality initial education and to encourage continuing education, and to reinforce that formative processes of awareness that allow the teacher to realize the many possibilities of working with children are indispensable. That we must fight for fair and decent working conditions, which allow time, space and freedom of planning and routine to enable moments of meaningful exchange with children.
