Resumo

The study examines the narrative, aesthetics, and themes of the documentary "MC Daleste - Mataram o Pobre Loco" (2024), an original production by Globoplay in the true crime genre which investigates the unresolved 2013 murder of the funk singer MC Daleste. The research reflects on the relevance of the true crime genre in the scenario of competition among national and global platforms, known as the Streaming War, and analyzes Globo's strategic shift in producing and distributing audiovisual content in the context of digital convergence and platformization. By tracing the origins and providing a historical overview of Globo's evolution from a television content producer and broadcaster to a mediatech company—a company that leverages technological tools and platforms to produce, store, and distribute content while collecting and analyzing data to adapt to changing consumer behaviors and maintain relevance—the author highlights the documentary's role as a vital tool for audience acquisition and retention in the streaming era. The conclusion suggests that evolving consumption habits are likely to drive documentaries to increasingly adopt narrative, aesthetic, and promotional techniques commonly associated with fictional cinema.
